“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)
The writer of the book of Hebrews described the hope we have in God – who does not change, does not lie, and who keeps His Word – as an anchor. He wrote, “This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.” (Hebrews 6:19)
Don’t our souls – our mind, our will, and our emotions – need to be anchored?
Did you know that when the wind or waves try to push a boat away from its anchor, the anchor digs deeper into the ground?
What a picture of hope: hope digs in deeper!
When storms come our way, when wave upon wave surges, when darkness increases, hope digs in deeper.
We don’t dig our heels in, placing our hope in the improvement of circumstances, nor do we dig our claws in, hoping for people to change, but rather we dig and go deeper in CHRIST and His Word, the very promises of God!
As we do, the “God of hope” will surely strengthen our hearts, won’t He? As David wrote in Psalm 31, “Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the Lord.” (v24)
