“Priceless” – The word David used to describe the love of God.
Priceless = “so precious that its value cannot be determined”
Whatever is precious to us – whatever we consider valuable – pales in comparison to the love of God. This may be stating the obvious, but just one look at our thoughts, our delights, our lives – may prove there’s room for an adjustment in what we esteem as priceless.
To David, the love of God was immeasurable: immeasurable in value. Immeasurable in breadth. Immeasurably poured out upon those who love Him.
It’s been said that the love of God was the “beginning and the end” of David’s thoughts. Yes, as he was consumed with the love of God, the love of God consumed him.
May we consider this love that has been freely given to us, poured out upon us, and now worked within us. As we do, we too will conclude with David, “How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!”
“Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep. You, Lord, preserve both people and animals. How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart.”
Psalm 36:5-10
